50-Year-Old Shadows

April 7, 2026

A letter from Brad

When you turn out the lights, after 50 years of being on.

Standing in the studio and gallery today, I felt it all at once. For the first time in 30-something years, the gallery is empty. The studio is quiet. No Gary, no Donna, no Richard, no Rachel, no Mikey.

The light hit everything just right today — so many moments gone, and the people who filled them.

Light streaming through the studio doorway
Light through the doorway.
The kiln room, quiet
The kiln room, quiet.
Shelves of white pottery waiting in the dark
Still waiting, in the dark.
The gallery, empty for the first time in 30 years
The gallery, empty for the first time in thirty years.

Life is beautiful, strange, and sad.

Crystalline glaze pottery up close
Fifty years of glaze, up close.

But I’m filled with hope, and there’s still so much love and happiness to share.

We ain’t done yet.
